Done with insert mold

August 3, 2006

I’m done with this insert mold. It took me 5 days to amend the design and change the drawings.

Insert molding is complicated. It involves very careful engineering design.

This insert mold is difficult

I’m loosing my hair on this insert mold. Designing and insert mold is usually not very difficult. But if the terminals were not punched correctly and and all of the mold fittings supporting that terminal were out of its dimensional tolerances, you’ll get yourself a headache.

Much more difficult when you design the molding die before you even got the final terminal samples’ actual dimensions. Adjusting the drawings can make you lose your hair in 5 days. I can prove that to you.

insert moldThis is the insert mold that I designed for 1 of our local customers. It took me 3 weeks designing this plus maybe another 1 week for adjusting the terminal fittings.

This is the smallest image I can use so that you can imagine what I am talking about and at the same time respect our customer by hiding the details from you. :) cheers!

Paper Drawing to 3D

July 24, 2006

Phew..! I just finished the paper to 3D input of this model. at first I thought i can do it easily in 2 days.. but it took me 4 long days.

I use Toyota Caelum Xxen for 3D modeling. Its a fairly easy 3D software but I think it lacks some nice features of some very nice 3D software like Solidworks.

I don’t know what features were missing since I havn’t tried other 3D software yet… (oh crap).. I’ve witness Solidworks in action though.

This is the screenshot. It looks simple but its not. it is a combination of body and surface.
